This Year's Model Updates:

After undergoing a full redesign last year, Chevrolet's heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck gets few changes for 2002. Air conditioning is now standard on all trim levels along with extendable sunshade visors and improved base model radios.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engines and hauling capacity, roomy interior, superior brakes.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, cheap interior materials.

  • Love my HD Crew - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Ive only driven 1100 miles. The ride is as good as our S-Blazer or even our Accord. Even with BFG ATs it has a quiet ride (much better than the Accord). Lots of room in the back seat for passengers. The engine has good power but you always wonder how much better the 8.1 or Duramax would be if I would have been willing to pay the price. The biggest downside is the size of a big truck like this. Im glad I have other cars to take into a parking terrace.

i bought thes truck brabd new and i loved it ever scince i saw it . the big hood looks mean and intimidating. the inside is big and comfortable. the dashborad is cheap and plastic. its got alot of low end power. the only problem i have is withe the engine - gmeblarged the pison heads and not the piston so now after 35,000 miles the 6.0 engine souds like a diesle. but i am overall happy with my truck

Have had continued problems with the drive train, from transmission noise to multiple problems with the front and rear differentials noise and leaking. Vehicle seems reliable in most cases, but leaves that nagging feeling that once the warranty is off Im going to be looking at repairs on a low milage vehicle (only averages 500 per month). Much fun to drive, but the overall fuel mileage is a w f u l, but that goes with the territory of the 6L engine and the rear end selection.

  • Love My Allison Tranny! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

For every day driving in southern California, also to haul horses, fuel economy has been good, the diesel engine surprisingly quiet. The Allison tranny holds speed going down hill. After hauling horses with the Allison tranny, through incredibly smooth decelerations, I dont think Ill go back to brand X. All in all a Great truck, Very sporty ride compared to its predecessor.

  • Awesome Truck! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I purchased my 2002 Chevrolet 2500HD 4x4 Ext cab truck in 2003. Other than the fuel economy of this truck, I have no compliants. I take care of it but I also use it as a truck. I am a hunter and commonly go off-road on some horrible roads. I have never been stuck and the truck is all stock. I plan on keeping this truck for a long long time and hopefully passing it on to one of my sons as a first truck. Chevrolet really put time, heart, and guts into building this machine!

  • Hidden Duramax costs - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
    By -

Besides being one of the best and most solid diesel pickups Ive ever owned, the truck is also the worst when it comes to the engine. The third full set of injectors have just been installed, the second Allison transmission last year, and an injection pump housing last month. For each injector change, 36, 72, and 113 thou., the truck has spent weeks waiting for parts and service. The truck sat in Phoenix for almost two weeks waiting for a torque converter and trans. Maintenance costs have exceeded $8,000 overall outside of warranty. It has cost Chevrolet $6,000 per injector change. All done under 200k warranty. When the injectors are no longer warrantied - this truck is gone!

  • Great Product - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

The Duramax is very powerful, great response machine. Great fuel economy, average 20mpg in a crew cab 2wd. Seats are comfortable and driving is easy, and smooth for a 3/4 ton truck. Negatives: Vision to the sides and rear are limited, and cup holders not in a good place.

  • Comfortable Pickup - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
    By -

The most comfortabvle vehicle I ever drove. We bought it because it was shorter overall and closer to the ground than its competitors. We use it for everything and it has been good. We had injector problems at 108,000, but they were paid by recall/extended warranty. Replaced front ball joints twice in 90,000 miles.

  • Great truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I bought his truck 7 months ago with only 32,000 miles on it. I love it! It runs great, and the cab is the biggest out there. It is also a very comfortable ride. The gas mileage isnt so great though. Overall a great truck.

  • 2500HD trailer towing capacity - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
    By -

Towing a nominal 10000 lb 5th wheel trailer is a breeze - the truck is working hard but it is entirely capable to do so. The only problem after 20000 miles is that the rear disc brakes failed (bad rotors), but the dealer made good on the repairs.
